WINNER REGIONAL HEALTHCARE HEALTHFAIR A SUCCESS!

The annual Winner Regional Healthcare HealthFair was held Friday, May 14th, and similar to previous years, the event was a success.
The event began early in the morning with the WRHC lab offering free and reduced cost sceenings to the community. Glucose, hemoglobin, lipid panel and thyroid testing were all offered. The public is appreciative of WRHC for offering these screens. Patty Buus, Lab Director for Winner Regional Healthcare noted that "over 120 screens and tests took place - a great response from the community".
From 7:00 am to 9:00 am the Winner Regional dining room was full with hungry and happy community members as the "Chamber Before Hours" breakfast took place. Over 200 people were served a delicious breakfast of pancakes, sausage and fresh fruit. "We had quite an array of visitors for breakfast; from Moms and Dads with children early in the morning, to Chamber of Commerce members, Winner business people and retirees, all whom came out to support our facility and enjoy breakfast with us", said Lynnelle Anderson, Communications Director. "It was great to have our administration serving breakfast to the community - and enjoying the community turn-out".
The HealthFair offered 20 different booths and services to the community. Sanford Partners in Prevention from Sioux Falls, came to the HealthFair to offer Ankle Brachial Index Screening, which tests for peripheral artery disease. There was a line for their services, but those waiting in line commented that it was worth the short wait to have the opportunity to take advantage of this important service. Many other booths, information and services were offered that day as well.
The Winner Regional Foundation held their "Blooming Prospects" Silent Auction during the HealthFair. Over 30 beautifully potted flowers and plants were on display in and around the Long Term Care facility at Winner Regional. These pots were beautifully decorated by WRHC employees, community members and students from the Winner High School art class, under the direction of teacher Mona LaCompte. The Foundation partnered with Janette's Greenhouse to fill the pots with beautiful flowers and plants. Proceeds of the auction went to Winner Regional Foundations Physician Recruitment Fund.
The United Blood Services Blood Drive ran until aft 2:00 pm. Walk-in's from the HealthFair signed up to give blood as well. Sherry Stilley, United Blood Services Regional Manager thanked Winner Regional for hosting a successful two-day blood drive stating, "There were 83 life-saving units of blood collected during the drive. This was almost 30 more units than last year! Many thanks to Winner Regional for holding the blood drive and thanks go out to the generous donors as well!"
