WRHC EMPLOYEES TAKE ON WALKING CHALLENGE
POSTED: APR 25, 2010
National "Start Walking Day" was April 7th, 2010. In honor of that day, the Winner Regional Healthcare Wellness Committee announced their new employee fitness challenge. Entitled, "Start Walking and Spring Into Action!" this fitness challenge focused on employees having the opportunity to improve their health while taking the time to enjoy the Spring weather and taking walks outside.
The Wellness Committee handed out pedometers in advance of April 7th kick-off day, and asked employees to set a goal for themselves of 50,000 steps per day. Over 100 employees picked up a pedometer and made the pledge to improve their walking.
Walking guides, health tips, free pedometers, and bi-weekly prizes for those that participate are only part of the story. The real benefit will be the pay-off at the end of the challenge when those who took on the challenge not only increased their steps, but increased their energy and are happier, healthy, and showing improved physical fitness.
As of the date of this story, many have been successful in the first round of the challenge! It's never too late to get involved. The challenge will run through the Summer months, encouraging employees along the way with health tips, healthy snacks, group walks, prizes and more!
Infection Control/Employee Health Nurse, Ellen Storms noted, "Winner Regional Healthcare Center is committed to the health of all employees so they in turn can take care of those needing help in the community."
