HEALING GARDEN NEARS COMPLETION
POSTED: AUG 27, 2009
Local crews are finishing up work on Winner Regional Healthcare Center’s newest outdoor space, a healing garden for patients, resident, visitors and staff.
The healing garden is located in the large courtyard between the long term care center and Family Practice Associates. Cement work was done by Rosebud Concrete and electrical wiring by Kucera Electric.
Todd Hauf oversaw construction and continues to work with local vendors to complete the infrastructure and planting.
Winner Regional Foundation is seeking volunteers and charitable organizations interested in planting trees, flowers and shrubbery for the space. For more information contact Lee Baldwin at 842-7214.
Research has shown that healing gardens in healthcare facilities provide a multitude of positive health benefits for residents and patients. Nature has a calming and restorative effect on those seeking refuge from institutional settings.
Accessible to residents, patients, visitors, staff and the public at large, the area will incorporate several elements to ensure the safety and comfort of those that use it including high-backed seating, ample shade, handrails and smooth, wheelchair-accessible pathways.
The garden design features a fountain, a large gazebo and several beautiful varieties of shade trees, colorful perennials, native grasses and blooming plants. The garden features a variety of seating options so visitors to the garden can spend time alone or with a group of family or friends in the space.
